A Revolution in Medicine-Introducing Samuel Hahnemann.

Samuel Hahnemann is a more controversial than respected figure in medical history. His revolutionary philosophy of gentle treatment, individual case care and reliance on the healing capacity of the human body emerged when treatments were invasive and often dangerous. These theories developed into homeopathy, a form of medicine that remains popular and practiced throughout the world today.

He was more than the creator of a treatment method, however; he revolutionized medical thinking at the end of the 18th and start of the 19th centuries. He changed medicine from aggressive treatment, from rigidly established tradition, to that of patient care, a thinking model much closer to that of the health systems that operate today.

Treatments of his era were typically blood-letting, purging and mercury-all things that left the patient in an weaker state rather than cured. There was no clinical testing, in the modern sense, of any treatment, it was largely left to tradition rather than to observation. Hahnemann questioned this norm and decided there must be a better way.

His approach placed an emphasis on observation, experimentation, reasoning-a move towards more meticulous and individualistic treatment of people's illnesses.
