One of the most commonly referred to notions of Hahnemann's, the idea of 'like cures like,' states that substances that produce specific symptoms in a healthy individual will be able to heal similar symptoms in a sick person when given in a specific dose. Along with this concept, Hahnemann also prescribed treatment suited for the individual, an emphasis on meticulous observation, and the practice of using minute doses.

Despite the controversy surrounding his approach to healing in the modern medical practice of today, the role of Hahnemann as a vital aspect of the history of medicine remains clear. His approach to care helped to redefine the perspective of medicine as one that required much more gentleness, careful observation, and individualized concern for the patient.

Ultimately, Hahnemann should not be identified solely as a part of an alternative medical practice, but as a physician who has altered the very notion of how to approach and consider medicine and patients.
