APA and Chicago Styles : The Matter of Academic Writing.

Chicago style also tends to take title case and give an extensive bibliography.


The major differences that exist between APA and Chicago are citation techniques, format, and preferences of discipline. APA uses short in-text references and emphasizes the publication date whereas Chicago permits a more elaborate reference in the notes. Also, APA provides the list of citations only, whereas Chicago can contain both cited and consulted works.


The two styles have their advantages. APA is simple and effective enough and is suitable in writing concerned with research. Instead, Chicago provides versatility and richness, which is good in analysing and interpretative fields.


To sum up, the selection of a citation style relies on the academic demands and the academic field. Despite the style applied, it is important to have proper citation in order to uphold credibility, prevent plagiarism and help in improving the overall quality of academic writing.
