Introduction: A Doctor Revolution.
Samuel Hahnemann is arguably one of the most contentious yet admired individuals in the history of medicine. He brought forth a totally new school of thought when medical practice consisted of brutal, invasive, and often life threatening interventions that are far more dangerous than the diseases themselves, with a focus on gentleness, personalization, and the body's innate ability to heal itself. His findings resulted in the creation of Homeopathy, a practice which is still in use around the world.
More than just proposing a new way of healing, Hahnemann effectively challenged and completely revolutionized medical thought of the late 18 th century and the early 19 th century, moving it away from interventionist treatment and focusing instead on treating the individual-a key concept that still exists in health care today.
At the time, procedures such as blood-letting, purging, and use of highly poisonous substances like mercury weakened rather than cured patients. The practice of clinical trials as we know it today was undeveloped and traditional rather than observational approaches were standard in the medical field.
Finding current medical practice unsatisfactory, Hahnemann turned away and later returned to medicine with an entirely new view on treating illness, grounded in observation, experimentation and logical reasoning.
