Introduction: A Physician who revolutionized medicine.

Samuel Hahnemann, perhaps one of the most influential yet debated men in medical history was someone that changed the practice of medicine and helped to pioneer its patient centeredness. While treatments back in the late 18th and early 19th centuries were often harsh, violent and more destructive then the illness they intended to treat, Hahnemann's method offered an alternative and gentler approach to the human body and healing. That alternative has continued to develop throughout time and can still be found under the name of Homeopathy. Hahnemann was not merely presenting an alternative, he questioned the entire paradigm that medicine followed throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. By emphasizing the gentleness of treatment, the individualistic approach to patients, and the ability of the human body to heal itself, he diverted the direction of medicine to focus on the patient rather than the attack. When looking back at the way that medicine was practiced in the late 18th and early 19th centuries we see a paradigm that was characterized by invasive treatments such as blood-letting and purging, the introduction of toxic substances such as mercury into the body, lack of standardized testing orclinical trials, and strong traditional components rather than scientific or objective analysis. In light of these factors Hahnemann stepped away from medicine, but only to return with an alternative derived from observation, trial and error, and deduction; hence revolutionizing medicine.
