Projects which are able to address or highlight real world problems and contribute solutions will continue to remain a subject of academic interest over a long period.


Following publication, visibility is key. Research should be discoverable via scholarly databases, search engines and professional networks, with a title that accurately reflects your research and includes key-terms. The abstract is one of the most important components for discoverability and will lead to the article being found.


Once discovered, you can start engaging with others. Researchers should engage with other scholars at conferences and webinars as well as within their research community, to begin spreading the word about their work and enable future discussions. Using digital communities and sharing your work with broader networks, both academic and non-academic, will increase readership.


Increased readership can lead to higher citations, which are a demonstration that your research has informed future work and contributed to academia. These can take time and patience to develop.
